The present is a gift

4616732eb9b4702ee0726ec8fce81c65People often let themselves get caught up in the past or the future. The truth is – the past cannot be changed, and the future is yours to create. Learn to leave your past behind, keep your heart in the present and eyes on the future.

Each individual has the power to change their life purely through their thoughts. Unfortunately, so many use this gift (often without realising) in a way that causes them to perceive their present or future negatively. For example, “life is bad now because of a decision I made in the past” or “if I don’t succeed now, my future is doomed.” With all this worry and stress, people become unable to view their life in a positive light.

Personally, I believe the key to overcoming this mindset is learning to leave your past behind, keep your heart in the present and eyes on the future. What do I mean? Learn from your past but do not let it become a dark shadow over you. Do not let regret consume you. Be present. Life is happening NOW and each second spend thinking about the past or future (negatively) is time wasted. Lastly, keep your eyes on the future. Know what you want out of life and where you want to be in a number of years. However, once again, do not let thoughts and worry about the future be all-consuming. Failure is not the end of the world and sometimes life has surprises in store that we cannot foresee or prevent.

When one day in the future I look back on my life, I want to know that I lived ‘in the now’ and did not miss any precious moment or memory because I was worried or stressed. It’s not easy for some people to let go of their anxiety and ‘go with the flow.’ However, I believe slowly changing to a positive mindset that focuses on the present, is a step in the right direction.
