I recently saw this post on Tumblr and like to think of it as ‘proof’ that good can be taken from any bad situation.
“THIS IS YOUR DAILY REMINDER THAT KIM KARDASHIAN TOOK A MAN’S BETRAYAL OF HER TRUST AND TURNED IT INTO A MULTI MILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY.
Seriously, this woman was betrayed and humiliated by someone she thought she could trust, had her personal life and sex life all over the internet, and rebounded to become one of the most famous people in our culture right now. You might say that Kim K and the Kardashians are “famous for nothing” but you have to have some respect for a woman who completely turned that situation on its head and rewrote the script to prioritise her own agency. Our culture doesn’t allow that for too many women, so let’s not forget how impressive that is.”
I definitely wouldn’t consider myself a huge Kardashian fan, but whatever your opinion, there is no denying the fact that using such a humiliating situation to her advantage and creating something positive for herself and her family was smart and courageous. In the toughest of times when we are feeling sad, lonely, embarrassed or filled with anger and despair, we often forget that “happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” Yes, I just quoted Albus Dumbledore (I’m a big Harry Potter fan). At those times it seems like our pain will last forever, but it doesn’t, ESPECIALLY if initiative is taken to find the positive amongst the negative.
I suggest that the next time you feel like there is nothing you can do to fix or change your luck – think like Kim Kardashian, and “rewrite the script to prioritise your own agency.”
